Platelet – Rich Plasma (PRP) is a powerful and natural way of promoting skin rejuvenation, harnessing the power of the PRP from a blood sample and injecting it into the skin. It has been widely used in medicine, surgery and aesthetics for many years with fantastic results.
A sample of blood is taken from the arm and this is spun in a centrifuge to separate the beneficial PRP from the rest of the blood components. This is then utilised to inject back into the skin.
The PRP, once injected into the skin stimulates collagen and elastin production, as well propagating cellular growth, improving local blood supply and hydrating the skin. This results in younger, fresher and more evenly toned skin over time.
PRP can be used to help with sun damaged skin, acne scars, stretch marks, skin texture and tone, hair loss, loss of glow, fine lines and dark circles. Visible results may take between 2-12 weeks to achieve depending on the individual and repeating the PRP procedure once a month can help to achieve more refined and dramatic results. PRP is commonly performed on the face, neck and chest.
PRP can be combined with our Dermapen procedure and we commonly use this technique in clinic. This is a micro-needling technique using a special instrument called a Dermapen that helps to propagate the PRP into the skin at exact and precise depths, enhancing the effects of the PRP treatment.
Clinical evidence suggests that combing PRP treatments with other rejuvenation techniques, such as dermal fillers, has a beneficial effect.
